My discoveries about my immunity symptoms: mouth (canker) sores (ulcers), acne, gum disease, and ear infection

At the age of 53 I've had some success with certain immunity issues. My symptoms have included mouth sores, acne, gum disease (in the past), and middle ear infection (otitis media). In this post I will summarize each one.

ANTIMICROBIAL PERIODONTAL THERAPY IN GENERAL DENTISTRY by Michael Donahue, RDH, BA

I don't know if this has been discredited or anything bad like that. But this is what I used to begin healing my gum disease.

Yasi Oral Irrigator review

I was sent a free Yasi Oral Irrigator Model YS831 to write about. I made a video review, and this post is to summarize my review. The only comparison I have for this irrigator is my Waterpik Model WP-100W irrigator, which is the third of the same model I have bought.

Update from Yasi: this is a travel irrigator, and they also have an irrigator with a much larger tank here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06VW9YN1R This model I reviewed is comparable to this Waterpik model https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0173PDOMA , and I suspect the only unfavorable comparison with that unit would be the uncomfortable standard tips included with this Yasi irrigator.

How to Reverse Gum Disease Fast

Little did I realize when I started blogging about my success reversing my gum disease that secret weapon number one would turn out to be my water bottle.

My Experience With Oil Pulling

I have received many comments suggesting that I try oil pulling or asking my opinion about oil pulling.  My niece Corina has recently been happily using oil pulling.  So I finally gave oil pulling a try and did some reading about it.

Brushing, Waterpiking (Irrigating), and Oil Pulling

I finally found a reference that relates brushing, waterpiking/irrigating, and oil pulling on this article about oil pulling.  At the very end of the article, Tracy Moore quotes Dr. Sandra Moldovan as saying "Basically, brushing for two minutes twice a day and Waterpiking is much, much better than oil pulling. It can get in places the oil can't. But if they want to use [oil pulling] as substitute for mouth rinse, that's totally fine."  I conclude that oil pulling is a good, high-powered form of rinsing for a morning routine.

Second clean dentist visit: my gum disease is cured!

I visited the dentist for my semi-annual checkup and cleaning a week ago.  He charged me only for a regular cleaning, not a periodontal cleaning, and he said my gums looked great!  My routine for the past two years has simply been to swish vigorously with water after every snack and meal and to clean my teeth with sonic brush and waterpik (classic jet or pocket tip) and occasionally a germicide before every nightly fast.  See my posts about gum disease for more details.

I reversed my gum disease in 32 months cleaning once daily without flossing

On April 6, 2010 my dentist declared I had gum disease pockets, one 7mm deep and fourteen 6mm deep.  On December 10, 2012, my dentist told me I had "no problems" and gave me only a regular cleaning, not a periodontal cleaning.  In the 32 months between those two visits, I used no floss and little toothpaste, but I did faithfully sleep every night with teeth cleaned by sonic brushing and Waterpik irrigation.

Gum disease healed! Dentist says "No problems."

Today I visited a new dentist for my first appointment in 12 months for X-rays, exam, and cleaning.  He said, "No problems."  When I incredulously asked him, "What about measuring my pockets?" he casually said, "If the hygienist sees trouble while cleaning, she will measure them."  She gave me the longest, best cleaning I have ever had.  She didn't even mention my gums.  Neither one of them mentioned my gums!!!!

Gum disease reversal bone regrowth

After my gum disease had receded a while, I noticed unsightly growths around the roots of my teeth.  After a bit of research, I concluded the growths were probably bone regrowth as part of the healing of my gum disease.  Today I made a short video showing the regrowth.

Top ten actions to reverse gum recession

I'm reversing my receding gums, having reduced my deepest pockets from 7 mm to 5 mm in two years (2013 update: I have now been pronounced free of gum problems at two dental exams).  I'm also seeing what I understand to be bone regrowth around my molars.

I'm Reversing My Gum Disease Using a Water Pik

On April 6, 2010, my dentist told me I had one 7mm deep gum pocket and fourteen 6mm deep gum pockets. That's an indication of advancing periodontal disease.

The End of My Morning Breath--How I Made A.M. Halitosis Stop

For the past few months I have had the pleasure of waking up daily with naturally pleasant breath instead of putrid decay coming from my mouth. And there isn't anything overly expensive, disruptive, or intrusive that I have done (oh, yeah, other than that 12-day water fast last March).

My Nightly Fast

I fast every day. Don't we all?

I'm Stopping My Gum Disease Without Flossing

Around 1999 I learned from Mountain View Family Dentistry in Mesa, AZ that I had gum disease, and I was instructed to brush, floss, and rinse with Listerine after every meal, followed by 1/2 hour without any intake. I adhered to those instructions until my next visit, when I was told my gum disease had improved. But I quickly dropped the habit soon afterward.

I'm Reversing My Gum Disease Successfully

I reversed my gum disease successfully in 32 months by swishing frequently with water and cleaning once daily with a sonic toothbrush (Philips Sonicare) and a water flosser (Water Pik) before an intentional nightly fast. (2012 update: my new dentist pronounced me problem-free on December 10.)

Making yogurt at home is cheap and easy

I am testing D'Adamo's Genotype 3 Teacher Diet. One of his characteristics of Genotype 3 Teacher is the tendency to be "accepting" of the world including infections. Part of what he recommends to boost the immunity of Genotype 3 Teacher is including yogurt and certain cheeses in the diet as well as brewer's yeast and probiotic cultures that are often found in yogurt.
