HawsEDC Unlimited Lock-free Online Looped Water Pipe Network Modeling

I added a looped water pipe network modeling application to my FLOSS (GPL = totally unchained to say "I love you") suite of online engineering calculators that allow multiple units selections and serve multiple languages (recently expanded to 26 for coverage focus in the developing world). It includes a "use EPANET engine" option. Here are some introductory checklists for new shoppers, new users, and new projects.

Looped Pipe Network Checklists

New Shopper

1. Use File, Open to open an example project. For the moment, right-click and "Save as..." this downloadable project. (The default file extension may change, and you can easily fix that or let me know about the issue.)

2. Use the Labels toolbar button or the View, Labels menu to change how and which labels are displayed on the map and whether highest and lowest values are marked. 

3. Move some labels by dragging them, and return them home by double-clicking them.

4. Use Settings to change Map appearance settings including the size of Labels.

5. Start select mode (it is the default mode) by clicking the Select toolbar button. Then 

• edit network element properties (inputs) by clicking, 

• move nodes or vertices by dragging them, and 

• add or delete pipe vertices by double-clicking.

6. Use Delete and Undo as desired. Undo history depth is ???????????????

7. Start add mode for Reservoir, Junction, or Text by clicking those buttons. Then click on the map to add one or many of them. End add mode by clicking those buttons (to toggle) or the Select toolbar button. Text can associate by leader with a node.

8. Start add mode for Pump or Pipe by clicking those buttons. Then click on a start node and an end node to connect them. Repeat as you wish. End add mode by clicking those buttons (to toggle) or the Select toolbar button.

9. Scale, Move, or Remove the Background image using its toolbar selector or the Insert menu.

New User

1. Under Settings, set everything to your preferences. Ignore anything that is unknown to you.

2. Rename this project's tab to "My-Template-1" (for example).

3. Use File, Save to create a local settings template file for use later and on other computers.

New Project

1. Prepare a project background image screenshot that includes a bar scale or other object of known length. Save it as a PNG file.

2. Add the Background image using its toolbar selector or the Insert menu. Then Scale and Move it as you wish. Adjust its opacity using Settings, Map appearance.

3. Check ID prefixes and Starting values under Settings.

4. Draw part or all of your network that uses (or mostly uses) the current Starting values. Calculations are updated as you work. Repeat the previous step and this one as many times as you wish.

5. Adjust Settings and Labels for presentation. Add Text for presentation.

6. Make screenshots of the map for your presentations.
