Preliminaries first. I am running Palm Desktop 6.2.2 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. A long time ago I stuck a Bluetooth port in one of my USB ports, and it stays there all the time. Long ago I was successful in getting my Tungsten E2 to HotSync via Bluetooth. But it seems like every time I try to HotSync it for the past year, I get an error message. And I never can get it to HotSync without a big troubleshooting production. This time I ended up on chat support, and my issue was finally resolved by soft resetting my Palm and by exiting the HotSync Manager. I am pasting below the chat history because it runs through the typical steps necessary to get the Bluetooth Sync to work with Windows 7. I hope to refer back to this post and update it with any additional feedback if I have trouble again.
Things to try:
1.
Exit the PC HotSync Manager in the System Tray, then restart it. (This is what almost always works for me.)
2. In the words of the support associate, "
We created a new Bluetooth connection and by exiting the HotSync Manager, performing soft reset and then relaunching the HotSync Manager worked."
Hello Tom.
Thanks, Rosy. I really appreciate your help.
1:55 PM Connection lost. Attempting reconnection...
I see that you are unable to initiate Bluetooth HotSync. Correct?
1:55 PM Support session established with Rosy.
Just to confirm, you have Tungsten E2. Correct?
Which version of Palm Desktop is installed on your computer?
Is this the first time you are trying to perform Bluetooth HotSync?
1:59 PM Support session established with Rosy.
I get it working sometimes, but then next time I try it won't. It seems like the typical solution is to delete something and let the wizard re-establish the partnership. But I can't figure it out today. And it's always hard for me to figure it out.
Could you please check whether the Bluetooth on your device is turned "on"?
No. I have done HotSync successfully many times. But it seems lately every time is a failure and a fight.
I might be able to help you more if I can remotely view your computer, and I need your permission to do this. May I remotely view your computer?
2:02 PM Rosy would like to start an operation which requires an applet to be downloaded. Download Applet
Please do. Yes. It is the PC that is the key to the solution. I do remember that.
Please download the applet and run it on your computer.
2:02 PM Applet connecting...
2:02 PM Applet connected.
2:03 PM Desktop Viewing started by Rosy.
Now I can view your computer.
Are you able to see and control my PC? I don't see any action.
Please follow the red marks.
2:06 PM Desktop Viewing by Rosy stopped.

Please initiate the HotSync process by tapping the HotSync icon on your device.
The only available hotsync was BT to LAN
I hope that's okay. Now it is trying to HotSync.
But it's heading for the same message.
Could you please let me know the message?
The four hotsinc options are Cradle/Cradle
and the new connection I just set up GERANIUM
I picked GERANIUM (That's how it has worked in the past).
But it says the same message.
Does it need to ba a trusted device? It currently is not.
Let us make some settings on your device.
Open the Prefs application and select Bluetooth.
Select HotSync Setup or PC Set Up.
Phone Steup, PC Setup, and LAN Setup.
I have been using PC setup.
Two buttons: Morning Glory
(Wireless connection and data serevie)
and GERANIUM (synchroize with Bluetooth)
Select Next on the information screen. Your Palm device searches for nearby Bluetooth devices.
I don't know why the button has a name.
There is no Next. There are only two buttons as described Morning-glory and Geranium
Shall I pick GERANIUM? That's what I normally do.
GERANIUM has a HotSync icon next to it.
NNow there are several screen with steps for setting up serial port, with Next buttons.
Tap on next in step 1,2 and 3.
Wait. After the first Next Button, I am on a discovery screen.
GERANIUM appears for me to pick.
Not a trusted device, but it appears.
Pick it as a Nearby Device?
Select your computer from the list of nearby devices and select OK.
Now I am att the steps. And I am going through them.
At the end there is a HotSync now button.
Tap on Launch HotSync on step 4.
Your Palm device begins to sync with your computer.
Connecting with the desktop using GERANIUM
The connectoin between your device...
and the sektop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again. This is a recording.
Let us try to create a new Bluetooth connection on your device.
On your device, tap on Home >> Prefs.
Under Preferences, tap on Connections >> That will open the Available connections on the device.
Tap on New Button and that will show the Edit connctions screen.
GERANIUM is at the bottom of the list.
Tap on New Button and that will show the Edit connctions screen.
Under Connect to: select PC.
Under Via select Bluetooth.
Select your PC name and click on Ok under the Discovery Results.
Add to trusted list. But PC doesn't offer a passkey.
Is it asking for a Pass key.
PAlm wants a passkey. PC isn't offering one.
Give the Pass key as 1111 both on your device and on your computer.
My computer isn't presenting me with an y opporutnity to enter one.
Did you enter the Pass key on your device.?
Now NewBT is in the Connections list.
Then select NewBT in the Available connections and click on Done.
Whew! I have to take good notes if I have to do this every time!
This is not required to do again and again it is only done when we try to pair the device with your computer.
It seems every time, the connection has to be redone.
You should be at Preferences screen now.
Select HotSync Setup or PC Setup.
The next screen tells you about the process you're about to undergo. Select Next.
MORNING-GLORY and GERANIUM are the two buttons.
I don't know why still GERANIUM. But that's what the button says.
It has a HotSync icon by it.
What is your computer name?
So I'm giong back to connections and deleting GERANIUM. I hope that's okay.
Please let me know your computer name.
All flower names. Isn't that cute?
Tap on your computer name.
Select your computer from the list of nearby devices and select OK.
Select Next three times to skip the three steps for setting up a virtual serial port. Bluetooth synchronization on Windows Vista doesn't use virtual serial ports.
Select Launch HotSync on step 4. Your Palm device begins to sync with your computer.
Connecting with the desktop using GERANIUM
The connection between your device and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again.
That's what keeps happening. Everytime.
I don't believe that in the past the eventual solution has involved serial ports, though I have tried theat route..
When you tap on the HotSync icon on the device what is the option selected under the HotSync icon for the drop down.
I believe the eventual solution has involved deleting old connections and letting some wizard create new ones. But then again, the solution isn't persistent. :-0(
When you tap on the HotSync icon on the device what is the option selected under the HotSync icon from the drop down.
GERANIUM is selected. There is also NewBT available. The wizard we stepped through set it to GERANIUM.
Please select NewBT and initiate the HotSync process.
orry. a sick daughter called me.
Please select NewBT and initiate the HotSync process.
Connecting with the desktop using NewBT.
The connection between your device and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again.
I have done this. In fact, I just did it last week. I know I can do it. I just forgot what I did.
It involves deleting something, I think.
Perform soft reset on your device by pushing the reset button which is present at the back panel of your device.
Please initiate the HotSync process.
So, what do you think it was, the soft reset or stopping hotsync?
p.s. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
We created a new Bluetooth connection and by exiting the HotSync Manager, performing soft reset and then relaunching the HotSync Manager worked.
