How I HotSync my Palm Tungsten E2 via Bluetooth with Windows 7

Preliminaries first. I am running Palm Desktop 6.2.2 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. A long time ago I stuck a Bluetooth port in one of my USB ports, and it stays there all the time. Long ago I was successful in getting my Tungsten E2 to HotSync via Bluetooth. But it seems like every time I try to HotSync it for the past year, I get an error message. And I never can get it to HotSync without a big troubleshooting production. This time I ended up on chat support, and my issue was finally resolved by soft resetting my Palm and by exiting the HotSync Manager. I am pasting below the chat history because it runs through the typical steps necessary to get the Bluetooth Sync to work with Windows 7. I hope to refer back to this post and update it with any additional feedback if I have trouble again.

Things to try:

1. Exit the PC HotSync Manager in the System Tray, then restart it. (This is what almost always works for me.)

2. In the words of the support associate, "We created a new Bluetooth connection and by exiting the HotSync Manager, performing soft reset and then relaunching the HotSync Manager worked."

Hello Tom.
Thanks, Rosy. I really appreciate your help.

1:55 PM Rosy:
I see that you are unable to initiate Bluetooth HotSync. Correct?

1:56 PM Rosy:
You're welcome.
1:56 PM Rosy:
Just to confirm, you have Tungsten E2. Correct?
1:56 PM Tom Haws:
Yes.
1:57 PM Rosy:
Which version of Palm Desktop is installed on your computer?
1:57 PM Tom Haws:
6.2.2
1:58 PM Rosy:
Okay.
1:59 PM Rosy:
Is this the first time you are trying to perform Bluetooth HotSync?
1:59 PM Support session established with Rosy.
2:00 PM Tom Haws:
I get it working sometimes, but then next time I try it won't. It seems like the typical solution is to delete something and let the wizard re-establish the partnership. But I can't figure it out today. And it's always hard for me to figure it out.
2:00 PM Rosy:
Could you please check whether the Bluetooth on your device is turned "on"?
2:00 PM Tom Haws:
No. I have done HotSync successfully many times. But it seems lately every time is a failure and a fight.
2:01 PM Tom Haws:
Done.
2:01 PM Rosy:
Okay.
2:01 PM Rosy:
I might be able to help you more if I can remotely view your computer, and I need your permission to do this. May I remotely view your computer?
2:02 PM Tom Haws:
OK.
2:02 PM Tom Haws:
o.
2:02 PM Rosy:
Thank you.
2:02 PM Rosy would like to start an operation which requires an applet to be downloaded. Download Applet
2:02 PM Tom Haws:
Please do. Yes. It is the PC that is the key to the solution. I do remember that.
2:02 PM Rosy:
Please download the applet and run it on your computer.
2:02 PM Applet connecting...
2:02 PM Applet connected.

2:13 PM Tom Haws:

Could you please let me know the message?
2:13 PM Tom Haws:

2:46 PM Rosy:
When you tap on the HotSync icon on the device what is the option selected under the HotSync icon for the drop down.
2:46 PM Tom Haws:
I believe the eventual solution has involved deleting old connections and letting some wizard create new ones. But then again, the solution isn't persistent. :-0(

All you did was exit the Hotsync manager in the PC system tray and then restart it?
